Qi Gong and Nei Gong
In Daoist philosophy and meditation, movement is most harmonious when it arises from stillness. By turning awareness inward and allowing the system to settle, we return to a more natural state—one in which action flows with greater ease and authenticity. While mindfulness and breathwork can offer moments of calm, they often miss the subtlety and depth of true meditative cultivation. In these classes, you’ll explore traditional Daoist neidan (inner alchemy) practices—methods passed down for generations to gently restore balance, nourish vitality, and allow your original nature to emerge more fully into daily life.
Tai Chi Chuan
Tai Chi uses slow, circular movements as a training method for developing precise alignment and increased sensitivity. It can be used as a moving meditation and as a means to develop internal power. Tai Chi is known for its health benefits and ability to help joint injuries heal. It emphasizes the cultivation of soft internal energy and subtle joint articulations.
Daoist Based Meditation
Within the context of Daoist philosophy and thought stillness is a prerequisite for all correct movement. By attaining stillness of mind and body proper movement is generated. The methods for becoming still are called quiet practices (qing gong) and non-conceptual meditation (zou wang). Quiet practice utilized the body breath and mind to focus on specific acupuncture points that calm the mind and restore energy (qi). Qi is stored in the internal organs which naturally become depleted over the course of one's life. The understanding is that through calming the mind and focusing on key acu-points the qi moves inwards and is restored.Once the mind is stabilized and energy retored, non-conceptual meditation can be achieved (zou wang - sitting and forgetting). This training relaxes preconceptions and preferences, promoting the ability to follow the course of life (Dao) without hangups or struggle.
